Do They Even Know?
Cue Brandy’s “Do You Know What You Have.” Whew, I love that song. Every time it comes on, I imagine myself starring in her non-existent video, nailing some bomb choreography. I swear, I transform into a whole new woman every time I hear it.
But anyway—focus. I just transferred my old blogs to this site (shout out to myself for learning how to transfer blogs from one site to another!), and I figured it’s time to reintroduce myself with a fresh post.
Here’s the thing: I’ve been sitting behind the Honey Social brand for almost five years now, and it recently hit me—most don’t really know who I am or what I do.
So, let’s fix that.
My Creative Origin Story
It all started in the dance studio when I was five years old. Dance was my first love, my first creative outlet. By the time I graduated undergrad with a minor in dance, I had to leave the studio behind, but all that creative energy needed somewhere to go. So, I picked up a camera—and I haven’t put it down since.
I started casually shooting in 2005, but in 2010, things got serious. That’s when I launched JAC, LLC. By 2019, I was all in, pouring my energy into helping women create brands that truly pop. Logos, color palettes, websites, media kits—you name it, I was designing it.
Shout out to my first major client, B. Michelle. (I’m not sure if she’s still in her event planning era, but if you Google her, you might still find her site and catch a glimpse of my early days as a designer. 🫣)
Working with her was everything. She came over to my house to map out her website, and I’ll never forget the moment she cried—tears of joy as she realized her dreams were coming to life, right there on the screen. Seeing her vision through my eyes and watching it all come together was a game-changer. That’s when I knew: I wasn’t just a photographer anymore.
The Honey Social Chapter
Later that same year, I launched Honey Social, a stock content platform for women of color that was bold, cultural, and unapologetic.
Let me tell you: Honey Social was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Running a membership platform is no joke. It requires constant attention and an unshakable amount of faith. Memberships went up, down, and back up again—it was a rollercoaster, to say the least.
But quietly, behind the scenes, I kept building. My custom client work grew, and so did my identity as a brand designer. Honey Social taught me resilience, and it gave me clarity about what I do best.
What’s Next
Now that I’ve made the decision to sunset Honey Social, I’m stepping fully into this new chapter with a clear vision and a full heart.
I’ve bookmarked courses to take, tools to master, and articles to absorb—all part of my plan to invest in my education and grow as a designer. There’s a new company name and website in the works—it’s a whole new era, and I’m so excited about what’s ahead.
So bottom line, here’s what’s to know about me: I’m here to create, to inspire, and to serve. Whether you’ve been with me since the beginning or you’re just now getting to know me, welcome. I’m so glad you’re here for this next part of the journey.
Note: This blog will be a space where I share the other side of entrepreneurship—the things that light me up, like style, wellness, home design, and all the personal moments that inspire my creativity. For the business side of things, stay tuned—I’ll be linking those pages soon.
